‘Young Devon is the largest young people’s charity in the South West. Our mission is simply to make Devon a better place for all young people. Each year we work with over 2,000 young people, building quality relationships to help them thrive.’

During my placement at 51 Studio, they were in the middle of rebranding Young Devon, the ‘YD’ mark is the logo that they created, and my challenge was to make it come alive using illustrations.

Seeing as Young Devon is an organisation aimed at young people, I wanted these new logo’s to appeal to them, I intended for them to add a fun dynamic layer. They were used across various different touch points, such as posters for the brand re-laun

Seeing as Young Devon is an organisation aimed at young people, I wanted these new logo’s to appeal to them, I intended for them to add a fun dynamic layer.

They were used across various different touch points, such as posters for the brand re-launch.

Some of the designs were intended to be purely aesthetically interesting, whereas others have a deeper meaning. For example, Young Devon have accommodation services for young people and do a lot for mental health and well-being; various designs that I did relate back to issues like these.

YD AT NUMBER 3

On the side of everything that Young Devon do, they opened a cafe called YD at Number 3.

Young Devon were really pleased with the work I had been doing for them so they thought it would be a great idea to get me to design something new for the cafe, with the same limitations as before, where I had to work around the logo.

I kept it super simple and just added a knife and fork, suggesting that the YD logo is the plate. I feel that this was very effective and the new logo was used on the cafe front, on the aprons, and on various other touch points in the cafe in Totnes.
